Mellow Page

Terms of Service

Updated: Mar 22, 2025

Welcome to Mellow Page — a private, ad-free journaling experience designed with your peace of mind in mind. By creating an account and checking the box during registration, you agree to the following terms and conditions.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, checking the box during registration, and continuing to use Mellow Page (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.

2. Service Description

Mellow Page is an online journaling platform where users can write and store personal entries. We are committed to privacy, minimalism, and a distraction-free experience. No ads, no invasive tracking, and no selling of user data — ever.

3. User Eligibility

  • Be at least 16 years old, or have legal guardian consent.
  • Provide a valid email address and agree to our data practices.
  • Not use the Service for any unlawful or abusive purposes.

4. Data Privacy & Encryption

  • Your journal entries are encrypted on your device before being transmitted to our servers. We store only encrypted versions and cannot decrypt them ourselves.
  • Only your first name is stored (no full names).
  • Your password is securely hashed and never stored in plain text.
  • We offer an optional Backup Recovery Key to help you recover access if you lose your password. If you lose both your password and recovery key, your journal entries cannot be recovered.
  • We will never sell or share your personal data.

Please review our Privacy Policy for more details.

5. Subscriptions & Payments

  • Monthly and annual plans are billed via a third-party processor (e.g., Stripe).
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings.
  • We do not offer prorated refunds for unused time, unless required by law.

6. User Content

  • You retain full ownership of all journal content you create.
  • Because of client-side encryption, we cannot view your journal entries without access to your decryption key.
  • We may delete content that violates these Terms or applicable laws, but we cannot view or moderate encrypted content directly.

7. Acceptable Use

  • You agree not to use Mellow Page for any illegal activity or to promote harm or violence.
  • You agree not to attempt to reverse engineer, hack, or disrupt the service.
  • You agree not to access another user’s content without their consent (even though encrypted content cannot be read without a key).

8. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or put the platform or other users at risk.

9. Availability & Changes

We strive for high uptime, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update or change features of the Service at any time, including these Terms.

We will notify users of material changes to the Terms through the website or via email.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We make no guarantees about the availability, security, or performance of the platform.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mellow Page and its creators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of the Service, including but not limited to lost data resulting from forgotten passwords and unrecoverable encryption keys.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States.

13. AI-Powered Features (Insights, Tags, Titles)

Mellow Page includes AI-powered features to enhance your journaling experience. These include:

  • Insights: Thoughtful reflections based on your journal entry
  • Auto-Tags: Contextual labels that help identify themes and make entries easier to find
  • Auto-Titles: Smart title suggestions based on your writing

These features are powered by large language models provided by OpenAI and are currently part of Mellow Page’s default experience (i.e., not optional).

To support these features, your journal entry is temporarily decrypted in memory on your device and securely transmitted to our server over encrypted HTTPS. It is then immediately forwarded to OpenAI’s API for processing.

We do not store or view unencrypted journal content. Our servers act solely as a secure passthrough between your device and OpenAI. AI-generated outputs (like tags and titles) may be stored as standard metadata alongside your journal entries to support features like search and filtering.

OpenAI does not use these API inputs to train or improve their models, and we never send identifying information (like your name or email) to them.

Important: These AI features are designed for self-reflection only. AI-generated content may not always be accurate or reliable and should not be used as a substitute for professional therapy, medical advice, or mental health treatment.

We remain committed to transparency, privacy, and putting you in control of your data.
